Private Jet Ski Season 2026/27: Which Airport for Which Alpine Resort

Every ski trip by private jet comes down to one decision that shapes everything else: which airport you land at. Your resort fixes a short list of airports, and each one trades runway length, transfer time and winter congestion differently. This guide sets out the realistic options for the main Alpine resorts and Aspen for the 2026/27 season, so you can compare them before you ask for a quote.
Resort by resort: where to land
Courchevel, Méribel and Val Thorens
Chambéry (CMF) is the closest airport that takes jets, about 1h45 by road to Courchevel. Geneva (GVA) accepts every size of aircraft and is about 2h30 by road, or around 40 minutes by helicopter to the Courchevel Altiport. The Altiport itself only takes helicopters and specially approved turboprops such as the Pilatus PC-12. Our Courchevel and French Alps guide covers these airports and the prices in detail.
Val d'Isère and Tignes
Chambéry is the nearest jet airport at roughly 2h15 by road. Geneva is closer to 3h, so it only makes sense when Chambéry has no parking or when you need a larger aircraft.
Chamonix
Geneva, about 1h15 by road. No airport closer to Chamonix takes a jet, so this is the simplest ski transfer in the Alps.
Verbier
Sion (SIR) is about 45 minutes by road. Geneva is around 2h and gives you a wider choice of aircraft and departure times.
Zermatt
Zermatt is car free. Land at Sion and take a helicopter to the Zermatt heliport in about 20 minutes, or drive to Täsch and ride the shuttle train for the last few kilometres.
Crans-Montana
Sion again, about 30 minutes by road, which makes Crans-Montana one of the quickest resorts to reach from a runway.
Gstaad
The Saanen airfield next to the resort takes helicopters and small turboprops. Most jets land at Geneva, about 2h by road or around 30 minutes by helicopter, or at Bern, about 1h15 by road.
St. Moritz, Davos and Klosters
Samedan (SMV) is 5 km from St. Moritz and, at 1,707 metres, the highest airport in Europe. It is a demanding mountain airport where crew training, daylight and weather decide what is possible, so we check each booking against the specific aircraft. Zurich is the fallback, about 3h by road or roughly 45 minutes by helicopter, and it is also the usual airport for Davos and Klosters at about 2h by road. Kitzbühel, St. Anton and Lech
Innsbruck (INN) puts you about 1h from Kitzbühel and 1h15 from St. Anton. Its valley approach needs specially trained crews, so not every operator can accept it. Salzburg (SZG), about 1h15 from Kitzbühel, is the usual alternative, and Friedrichshafen or Zurich work well for Lech and Zürs.
Aspen
Aspen/Pitkin County (ASE) sits right next to town, but it has a high, short runway, a wingspan limit that rules out the largest cabins, and frequent winter weather diversions. Peak dates for 2026/27
Christmas and New Year: Saturday 19 December 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027. The heaviest flying days are 19 December, 26 December and 2 January.
February holidays: school holidays across the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium and the French zones run from early February to early March 2027. Saturday 13 and Saturday 20 February are usually the busiest days.
Easter: Easter Sunday falls on 28 March 2027, which keeps late season demand strong for the high altitude resorts.
Saturday is chalet changeover day across the Alps, and that is when Chambéry, Sion and Geneva run out of parking. When an aircraft cannot stay, it drops you and flies out empty, and that positioning time goes on the invoice. For the Christmas weeks we advise booking six to eight weeks ahead.
Helicopter transfers
A helicopter turns a long mountain drive into a short hop: Geneva to Courchevel in about 40 minutes, Sion to Zermatt in about 20, Geneva to Gstaad in about 30 and Zurich to St. Moritz in about 45. Twin engine types such as the Airbus H145 and Leonardo AW109 carry skis and luggage. Mountain weather can close a route at short notice, so we always hold a road transfer as a backup.
How to keep the cost down
Fly on a weekday. Moving a departure from Saturday to Friday or Sunday often frees up both aircraft and parking.
Match the aircraft to the airport. A light jet into Chambéry or Sion can cost less in total than a larger jet into Geneva plus a helicopter.
