How an air ambulance flight is arranged
1. Send us the case
The patient's location, the receiving hospital, the diagnosis and current condition. A short report from the treating doctor helps the medical team decide fastest.
2. Medical review
The operator's medical team reviews the case and sets the crew and equipment, from a flight nurse to a full intensive care set up.
3. Bed to bed
We confirm the aircraft and the timing, and coordinate with both hospitals, the ground ambulances and, where needed, the insurer.
Insurance
Many travel insurers cover medical repatriation. We work with your insurer's assistance company, or quote you directly if you pay yourself.
In a medical emergency on the ground, call the local emergency number first.
Air ambulance questions
How quickly can the aircraft fly?
For urgent cases, often within hours. It depends on where the nearest suitable aircraft is, landing permits, and the patient being fit to fly.
Who is on board?
The medical crew is set by the case: a flight nurse, a doctor, or both, from the operator's own medical team, plus the flight crew.
Can a family member travel with the patient?
Usually one companion can fly along, depending on the aircraft and the medical set up. Tell us when you send the case.
