Flying with Pets on a Private Jet: Entry Rules by Country (2026 Guide)

The biggest mistake pet owners make when chartering a private jet is assuming the paperwork is simpler than with commercial airlines. It isn’t. The rules are set by the destination country — not the airline or the aircraft operator. Here is the 2026 guide to pet import requirements for the destinations Jetvice clients fly to most often.
The Four Rules That Apply Everywhere
Start early. For some destinations (UAE, USA), you need months of lead time. Do not leave it until 2 weeks before departure.
Microchip comes first. The chip must be implanted before the rabies vaccination for the vaccination to count legally.
Verify with an official source. Rules change — only national veterinary authorities or government websites are legally binding. This guide is a starting point, not a substitute.
Tell your broker at booking. Jetvice flags documentation requirements for your destination at the time of quoting. We’ve seen charters delayed at the FBO because a client arrived without correct paperwork.
European Union / Schengen Area
Required: EU Pet Passport containing a microchip record and up-to-date rabies vaccination history. If your pet already has one and vaccinations are current, nothing additional is needed for intra-Schengen travel. Non-EU pets entering Schengen need an equivalent health certificate from an authorised vet, current microchip, and rabies vaccination at least 21 days old (for first vaccination).
United Kingdom
Post-Brexit, the UK no longer accepts EU Pet Passports. You need:
Animal Health Certificate (AHC) — issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV) in your country
Valid from 10 days before travel; expires 4 days from the travel date (single-use document)
Current microchip and up-to-date rabies vaccination (at least 21 days old for first vaccination)
Dogs only: tapeworm treatment by a vet within 24–120 hours of entry into Great Britain
Cost: €80–€150 for the OV appointment and certificate. Book at least 2 weeks before travel — OVs can be busy at short notice.

United Arab Emirates (Dubai & Abu Dhabi)
One of the most demanding destinations for pet travel. Plan a minimum of 3–4 months ahead for a first trip. Requirements:
MOCCAE import permit (Ministry of Climate Change and Environment — apply online)
ISO microchip (15-digit)
Current rabies vaccination
Rabies titre test (FAVN or ELISA) at an approved lab, showing ≥0.5 IU/ml antibody levels. There is typically a 3-month waiting period after the titre result before the pet may enter
Official health certificate from a government-certified vet, issued within 14 days of travel
Only certain species are permitted entry. Check the MOCCAE approved species list in advance — some breeds are restricted entirely.
United States of America
CDC rules for dogs have changed multiple times since 2023. Always check cdc.gov/importation for the current requirements. As a general guide:
All dogs must be microchipped
Dogs vaccinated against rabies outside the US: require proof of a US-issued booster, OR must go through the enhanced CDC process including a titre test at a CDC-registered lab
Dogs not vaccinated against rabies: must enter via a USDA-approved facility and may face quarantine
Cats: no federal rabies vaccination requirement, but a health certificate is recommended and some US states require it
Note: the entry rules apply regardless of how you travel. Private jet arrival does not bypass USDA APHIS inspection.
Switzerland
Switzerland follows EU pet travel rules despite not being an EU member. EU Pet Passport is accepted. Non-EU/EEA pets need the standard Schengen health certificate with current microchip and rabies vaccination.
Maldives
The Maldives is one of the most restrictive destinations for pet travel. In practice, bringing a pet to the Maldives as a tourist is extremely difficult. A government permit is required, quarantine on arrival may apply, and most luxury resorts do not permit pets on their private islands. Our honest advice: if you are travelling to the Maldives with Jetvice, arrange professional pet care in Europe for the duration of your trip.
France, Spain, Italy, Greece (EU)
EU Pet Passport is sufficient for EU-origin pets. Standard Schengen health certificate for non-EU pets. No additional country-specific requirements for dogs and cats. For Ibiza and Mallorca arrivals: the same EU rules apply at the private terminal.
Quick Reference Table
EU / Schengen — EU Pet Passport — No lead time needed (if current)
United Kingdom — Animal Health Certificate (AHC) — 1–2 weeks
UAE / Dubai — MOCCAE permit + rabies titre test — 3–4 months minimum
USA — Microchip + rabies compliance (see CDC rules) — 2–4 weeks
Switzerland — EU Pet Passport — No lead time needed (if current)
Maldives — Government permit required — Very difficult; not recommended for tourist travel

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need special documentation to fly with my pet internationally on a private jet?
Yes. The documentation required is set by the destination country, not the aircraft or operator. An EU Pet Passport covers Schengen travel. For the UK, UAE, and USA, additional country-specific documents are required, each with different lead times. Always verify with official sources before travel.
What documents do I need to fly my dog from Europe to the UK?
An Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV) in your country. The AHC is valid from 10 days before travel and expires 4 days after travel — it is a single-use document. Dogs also require tapeworm treatment within 24–120 hours of UK entry. Cost: €80–€150. Book your OV at least 2 weeks before departure.
How far in advance should I start the process for flying my pet to Dubai?
A minimum of 3–4 months ahead for a first trip. The UAE requires a MOCCAE import permit, an ISO microchip, current rabies vaccination, and a rabies titre test — with a 3-month waiting period after the titre result before entry is permitted. Start this process as early as possible.
Can I bring my dog to the USA on a private jet?
Yes, but US rules apply regardless of how you arrive. Your dog must be microchipped. If vaccinated against rabies outside the US, a US-issued booster or CDC-approved titre test process is required. Private jet arrival does not bypass USDA APHIS inspection at entry. Check cdc.gov/importation for current requirements.
Which countries have the strictest pet import rules for private jet travellers?
The UAE and Maldives are the most demanding. The UAE requires a MOCCAE permit and a rabies titre test with a 3-month waiting period — a minimum of 3–4 months lead time. The Maldives is in practice very difficult for tourist pet travel and we recommend arranging pet care in Europe instead. The UK (post-Brexit) is also more demanding than most European destinations.
